Longburn Firewood

The industry leader in high-quality bundled firewood is Longburn Wood (LBW). Some of the top firewood regions in the nation are where LBW gets its firewood. These areas share a number of characteristics, such as limited rainfall, a dry climate, and poor soil, which results in some of the greatest firewood found anyplace in the world. This wood produces incredibly solid, dry firewood that actually has a lower moisture content than kiln-dried wood because of how slowly it develops. This results in the customer receiving a fire that burns with a flame throughout the night with little to no smoke and a small amount of fine white ash.

Processing

The firewood is thermally wrapped in recyclable clear polythene plastic, barcoded, and labelled. This avoids splinters and keeps boots and backseats tidy. For ease of lighting and sustaining the fire, LBW’s firewood product comes in a variety of firewood sizes in the pack. The firewood packs from LBW are perfect for gatherings, camping, cooking out, and home heating. The firewood packs are consistently square, making it possible to cleanly and squarely “palletise” LBW packs, making it simple to load, pack on top of, transport, and distribute. This is a breakthrough in the industry that makes it possible to carry bundled firewood across state lines for the first time in an affordable way.

Responsibility for the environment

Graziers in Queensland annually pile and burn hundreds of thousands of tonnes of firewood. Since LBW arrived in the area, we have observed that many of the farmers have switched from burning to cutting. Their wood had previously had no other use, so in essence, our customers are just burning waste that would have otherwise been burned off with no benefit to anyone. Instead of using expensive, destructive bulldozers, which take years to recover from, the farmers are paid to clear their own land. The production of firewood has little environmental impact, and most of the time, cattle are grazing in the paddocks while the timber cutters are at work. In contrast to the majority of LBWs rivals who cut green, give the wood 12 months to dry, and then pack, producing a lot of smoke with little heat, LBW only chops trees that have been dead for 20 to 60 years, giving it more than enough time to season correctly. This area is also severely affected by drought, with farmers skipping planting crops year after year and graziers lowering stock levels and importing feed. Without even mentioning the 20 to 30 workers hired directly during the winter for the packaging operation, LBW offers them a drought-proof source of income.

Lighting Instructions From Longburn Wood

Tee Pee Method

  1. Scrunch one or two pieces of newspaper tightly.
  2. Build a tee-pee over the paper with kindling and light (for combustion heaters keep flues open).
  3. When kindling is lit, add small hardwood gradually increasing in size until the largest pieces are on, being careful not to smother the fire.
  4. For combustion heaters do not turn flues down until the fire is well established with red coals.

Cross Hatch Method

  1. Scrunch one or two pieces of newspaper tightly and place in the middle of your fireplace.
  2. Place a stick of kindling on either side of the paper.
  3. Place an additional two sticks perpendicular to these, forming a square in the middle and making sure that your kindling is touching the paper.
  4. Repeat steps 2 & 3. You should now have a total of 8 sticks of kindling stacked in a cross hatch pattern encasing your newspaper.
  5. Light up the paper and your kindling should catch on fire every time without fail (for combustion heaters keep flues open).
  6. When kindling is lit, add small firewood pieces gradually increasing in size until the largest pieces are on, being careful not to smother the fire.
  7. For combustion heaters do not turn flues down until the fire is well established with red coals.
